Restoration

My approach is "less is more" on restoration. That means that the intervention is only where it is necessary, to respect the original piece of art and its' integrity.

Here are some most commonly used concepts and procedures :

  1. Cleaning. Normally this is surface cleaning, and/or old varnish removal, depending on the object.
  2. Fungi treatment.
  3. Lining. This is the process to put a new canvas on an old support with different types of adhesives (which should always be reversible).
  4. Fill in. Sometimes the paint layers fall off and the lacunae are visible. Fill in is the process to recreate the same structure as the original paint layer only where it is necessary.
  5. In painting. Application of colour with the same material and techniques of the original used in the missing areas only.
  6. Varnish. Application of varnish.
  7. Stretching. Stretch a canvas on a stretcher possibly with keys on the correct tension.

  • Cut in an original canvas (caused by overstretching)
  • Lacuna of paint layer and preparation (canvas visible)
  • Filled in. Ready to in-paint
